Burkitt Lymphoma

Neoplasms

Burkitt lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, particularly of the B lymphocytes found in the germinal center, named after the Irish surgeon Denis Parsons Burkitt, who first described the disease in 1958 while working in equatorial Africa. It is a highly aggressive cancer that often, though not always, appears after a person develops acquired immunodeficiency from infection with the Epstein-Barr virus or HIV.
