The fear of falling, also called basophobia or basiphobia, is a natural fear typical of most humans and mammals to varying degrees. It differs from acrophobia, the fear of heights, although the two are closely related: the fear of falling covers the anxiety that goes with the sensation of falling and the possibly dangerous effects of a fall, rather than the height itself. People who feel little of it are said to have a head for heights. Basophobia is sometimes associated with astasia-abasia, the fear of walking or standing upright.
