Female infertility refers to infertility in women, the inability to conceive after sexual intercourse. In 2021 approximately 110 million women globally were affected, an 84 percent increase since 1990. Fertility is affected by a variety of factors, including malformations of the uterus, hormones, disease, nutritional status, and pollution, with ovulatory hormonal disorders the single greatest contributing factor, alongside acquired factors such as age, smoking, sexually transmitted infections, and abnormal body weight.
