Frozen pelvis is a severe complication of other medical conditions, especially endometriosis and cancer. In a healthy pelvis the internal organs, such as the urinary bladder, the ovaries, the uterus and the large intestine, are separate from one another and can move or slide as the body moves, so a surgeon can reach between two organs during abdominal surgery without cutting into either. In a frozen pelvis these organs are attached together by internal scars, called adhesions, and can no longer move freely or be separated without cutting. This entry records the condition as the medical literature describes it and is not medical advice.
