Haemophilus influenzae Type b Disease

Infectious and Parasitic Diseases

Haemophilus influenzae type b disease, known as Hib disease, is one of the infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae bacteria, which despite the name do not cause the flu. H. influenzae disease is the name for any infection caused by these bacteria, and the infections range from mild, such as ear infections in children and bronchitis in adults, to serious. The most common serious infections are pneumonia, a bloodstream infection, meningitis, epiglottitis, cellulitis and infectious arthritis. Symptoms depend on the part of the body that is infected, and serious infections can result in long-term health problems and death. Vaccines prevent the infections caused by type b.
