HIV/AIDS in Indonesia is the course of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in the country and the public health problem it poses. UNAIDS has described it as one of the fastest growing epidemics in Asia. In 2007 Indonesia ranked 99th in the world by prevalence rate, yet low understanding of the symptoms and heavy social stigma meant that only about 5 to 10 percent of people living with the disease were actually diagnosed and treated. An estimate from 2019 counted 640,443 people living with HIV in the country, an adult prevalence of 0.4 percent. Indonesia has the largest number of recorded people living with HIV in Southeast Asia, while Thailand has the highest adult prevalence. This entry records a national epidemic profile and is not medical advice.
