Hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome, abbreviated HIES, is not one disease but a heterogeneous group of immune disorders, which means that several conditions with different features and causes are gathered under a single name. The form that follows an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance is called Job's syndrome or Buckley syndrome, and these two names are used for it in the medical literature. Job's syndrome is described as very rare, with only about 300 cases recorded in the published literature at the time the source was written. Because the name covers a group, a reader should expect the individual forms to differ from one another, and the atlas records the group as the source states it without assigning features the source lead does not give.
