Ichthyosis vulgaris is a skin disorder that causes dry, scaly skin. It is the most common and one of the mildest forms of ichthyosis, affecting around one in 250 people, which is why it is also known as common ichthyosis. It is usually an autosomal dominant inherited disease, though a rare non-heritable form called acquired ichthyosis also exists.
