Interictal dysphoric disorder, abbreviated IDD, is a mood disorder sometimes found in people with epilepsy, with a reported prevalence of about 17 percent. Its most common symptom is an intermittent dysphoric mood in the periods between seizures. It can often be treated with a combination of antidepressant and anticonvulsant medication. Whether it exists as a distinct diagnostic entity is not fully established, and it is not included in the DSM-5, so it is best read as a description of a pattern seen in epilepsy rather than a settled diagnosis.
