Mood swing

Symptoms, Signs and Abnormal Clinical Findings

A mood swing is an extreme or sudden change of mood. According to the Wikipedia lead such changes can play a positive or a disruptive part, helping with problem solving and flexible forward planning on one side, and disrupting life on the other. When mood swings are severe they may be categorized as part of a mental illness such as bipolar disorder, where erratic and disruptive mood swings are a defining feature. The lead adds that people usually track mood, affect or emotion by charting on paper, by interviews or with a smartphone, and that mood swings do not only fluctuate between mania and depression but in some conditions also involve anxiety. This entry is a record and is not medical advice.
