In medicine, paresis is a condition marked by weakness of voluntary movement, or by partial or impaired loss of voluntary movement. Used without qualifiers it usually refers to the limbs, but the term is also used for weakness of the eye muscles, called ophthalmoparesis, of the stomach, called gastroparesis, and of the vocal cords.
