Polymyalgia rheumatica is a systemic inflammatory disease marked by pain and stiffness, usually in the neck, shoulders, upper arms and hips, though it can occur throughout the body. Almost all cases occur in people aged 50 or older. The pain and stiffness are worse in the morning and ease through the day, though the symptoms often persist to some degree into the evening.
