Renal glycosuria is a rare condition in which the simple sugar glucose is excreted in the urine even though blood glucose levels are normal or low. In people with normal kidney function, glucose appears in the urine only when the level of glucose in the blood is abnormally elevated. In renal glycosuria the urine glucose is abnormally high because of improper functioning of the renal tubules, which are primary components of the nephrons, the filtering units of the kidneys. The defining feature is therefore a mismatch between blood and urine glucose that originates in the kidney tubules. This record describes the condition and is not medical advice.
