Roemheld syndrome

Symptoms, Signs and Abnormal Clinical Findings

Roemheld syndrome, also called gastrocardiac syndrome, is a medical syndrome named for the German physician Ludwig von Roemheld, who lived from 1871 to 1938. It describes a cluster of cardiovascular symptoms that are brought on by changes in the digestive tract, so that the heart appears to react to what is happening in the stomach and gut. The same condition has been recorded under several other names, including gastric cardiac syndrome and the Roemheld-Techlenburg-Ceconi syndrome. The Wikipedia lead calls it a previously overlooked diagnosis and notes that recent studies have described similar clinical presentations and suggested possible underlying mechanisms. This entry records what the lead states and offers no clinical guidance.
