Shwachman-Diamond syndrome, also called Shwachman-Bodian-Diamond syndrome, is a rare congenital disorder characterized by exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, bone marrow dysfunction, skeletal and cardiac abnormalities and short stature. After cystic fibrosis it is the second most common cause of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in children. The condition is associated with the SBDS gene and is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. The Wikipedia lead is brief, so this entry records only what that lead supports, and further detail on presentation, diagnosis and management is left to later research.
