A thymoma is a tumor that originates from the epithelial cells of the thymus and is considered a rare neoplasm. Thymomas are frequently associated with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis, found in about 20 percent of patients with that condition, and once diagnosed they may be removed surgically, with radiation therapy used in the rare case of a malignant tumor.
