Tinea incognita, also spelled tinea incognito, is a fungal infection of the skin that looks odd for a typical tinea infection. The border of the skin lesion is usually blurred and the lesion appears to have florid growth. It generally follows the application of a steroid cream to a rash that was at first thought to be eczema; continued application lets the fungal infection expand until it is unrecognisable. Occasionally a secondary bacterial infection follows, with pustules and impetigo at the same time. This entry is a reference record based on the introduction of its source article and is not medical advice.
