Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, one of the most common parasites found in humans worldwide. Most infections in otherwise healthy people cause mild or no symptoms, but the infection can cause serious illness in people with weakened immune systems and can cause severe harm to a fetus if a pregnant person is newly infected. It is commonly transmitted through contact with infected cat feces or through eating undercooked contaminated meat.
