Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that treats painful vertebral compression fractures by injecting bone cement through a small puncture in the skin directly into the fractured vertebra. The cement, typically polymethyl methacrylate, hardens to stabilize the bone and relieve pain without attempting to restore the vertebra's height. It is usually performed as an outpatient procedure and is the simpler of the two vertebral augmentation techniques, the other being kyphoplasty.

FAQs
How soon does pain ease after vertebroplasty?
Often within hours but sometimes up to 72 hours.
Johns Hopkins Medicine describes a short recovery after the cement is injected. The patient will probably lie on the back for about 1 hour while the cement hardens, then stay in an observation room for a further 1 to 2 hours. Pain relief may come almost immediately after the procedure, but it can take up to 72 hours.
