Turricephaly

Congenital Malformations and Chromosomal Abnormalities

Turricephaly is a cephalic disorder in which the head looks tall, with a small length and width, giving it a tall, narrow appearance. It results from premature closure of the coronal suture together with at least one other suture, such as the lambdoid suture, and the term may also be used when all of the skull sutures fuse early. It should be told apart from Crouzon syndrome, which is a separate named condition. Oxycephaly, also called acrocephaly, is a form of turricephaly in which the head is cone-shaped; it is the most severe of the craniosynostoses, the group of conditions in which skull sutures close too soon. The term describes a head shape, and the sutures involved can vary from case to case.
