X-linked dystonia-parkinsonism, also known by the local name Lubag and abbreviated XDP, is a movement disorder that has been found only in people of Filipino descent and affects men much more often than women. It usually begins with parkinsonism, meaning tremor, slowed movement, rigidity and poor postural balance, and later many people develop dystonia, sustained involuntary muscle contractions that often start around the eyes, jaw or neck and can spread across the body. Severity varies widely, from slowly progressive parkinsonism with little dystonia to rapidly generalized dystonia. It is inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern and is linked to variants in and near the TAF1 gene, and most affected people trace their mother's ancestry to the island of Panay in the Philippines.
