A reuptake modulator, also called a transporter modulator, is a type of drug that modulates the reuptake of one or more neurotransmitters through their respective neurotransmitter transporters. The source gives reuptake inhibitors, which block the transporters, and reuptake enhancers as examples of the class. The term is therefore a broad pharmacological label for drugs that act on neurotransmitter transporters, not a single chemical family and not a single therapeutic use. This entry records the class as it is defined in the opening of the cited article. A fuller account of particular transporters and of the member drugs is left for later work, and nothing here is medical advice.
