Theodor Brugsch

Generalist and Primary Care Physicians

Theodor Brugsch (1878 to 1963) was a German internist and politician, born in Graz as the son of the Egyptologist Heinrich Karl Brugsch and raised in Berlin. He became an associate professor in 1910, worked at the Charite and served as a physician with the 9th Army in Romania in 1917 to 1919. He was professor at Halle from 1927 to 1935, resigned because of the political climate, and practised privately in Berlin. With Friedrich Kraus he published the nineteen-volume textbook Spezielle Pathologie und Therapie, and with Friedrich Lewy he published Die Biologie der Person. After the Second World War he returned to the Charite in East Berlin and took a post in the new German education administration. He received the Goethe Prize in 1954 and the East German National Prize in 1956. Brugsch's syndrome is named for him.
