Archibald Hunter (1813 to 1894) was a Scottish hydrotherapist, naturopath and writer. Born in Glasgow, he first worked as a cabinet maker for his father, became interested in hydrotherapy and joined the Glasgow Hydropathic Society. He opened a hydropathic practice in Glasgow and later converted a mansion into the Bridge of Allan Hydropathic Establishment, which promoted fresh air, water and a vegetarian diet. He had no medical training but received a doctor degree from the New York Hydropathic and Physiological School in recognition of his services. His popular domestic guide to hydrotherapy reached a thirteenth edition in 1899. He died four weeks after retiring. This entry records what he held and is not medical advice.
