Arthur Schlossmann (1867 to 1932) was a German pediatrician and social public health specialist, born in Breslau. He attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden, took his doctorate at the University of Munich in 1891 after medical studies at several German universities, and worked as an assistant at Adolf Aron Baginsky's children's hospital in Berlin. In 1897 he founded a private home for babies in Dresden, a hospital devoted entirely to in-patient treatment of sick infants that was considered the first of its kind anywhere; it stressed strict asepsis, systematic training of pediatric nurses and his own ideas on natural diet. From 1906 he worked in Düsseldorf, first directing the children's ward of the municipal hospital and, from 1923, as professor of pediatrics. He co-edited a five-volume Handbuch der Kinderheilkunde (1906) with Meinhard von Pfaundler and a six-volume handbook of social hygiene and health welfare (1925 to 1927), was elected to the Leopoldina in 1926, and died in Düsseldorf in June 1932.
