Arvid Wretlind (1919 to 2002) was a Swedish physician and nutrition researcher. He invented Intralipid, an intravenous lipid emulsion that was approved for clinical use in Sweden in 1962 and later approved in the United States in 1972, after US regulators had initially hesitated because of problems with earlier fat emulsions. His work established the foundation of modern intravenous, or parenteral, nutrition.
