Carl Arnold Kortum (1745 to 1824) was a German medical doctor who is best known for his writing and poetry. Born in Mülheim, he studied medicine and from 1771 worked as a physician in Bochum, where he died in 1824. He wrote several somewhat popular medical works, and also wrote less profitable works on subjects ranging from beekeeping to antiquarian topics to alchemy. He is most remembered for his satirical epic poem The Jobsiade, in full Leben, Meinungen und Thaten von Hieronymus Jobs dem Kandidaten, first published anonymously in 1784, and none of his other satirical works enjoyed the same popularity.
