Charles Brenton Huggins (1901 to 1997) was a Canadian-American surgeon and physiologist. He discovered that sex hormones influence the growth of the prostate gland and developed hormone therapy for prostate cancer, later extending his hormone research to breast cancer. He was awarded the 1966 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, shared with Peyton Rous, for his discoveries concerning hormonal treatment of prostatic cancer.
