Diambendi Madiega is a Burkinabe traditional healer and the chief of the town of Bollé, near Ouagadougou, known in his Mossi community as the Nabaa Wogbo, which means Elephant Chief in the Mooré language. When refugees fleeing the war in Mali reached Bollé, he used his own land to provide temporary shelter, housing and feeding about 2,500 people. He also worked as a mediator between the refugees and the local host community and helped the displaced people find their way through the support system of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. For this work he was named, with Roukiatou Maiga, a regional co-winner of the 2021 Nansen Refugee Award of that agency. He was reported to be 67 years old in 2021. This entry records what he held and did, and is not medical advice.
