Eduard Krebsbach (1894 to 1947) was a German physician who became an SS doctor and the garrison doctor of the Mauthausen concentration camp. He studied medicine at the University of Freiburg, with his classes interrupted by four years of military service in the First World War, took his doctorate in 1919 and then worked as a company and district physician. He joined the SS and the Nazi Party in 1933. From 1941 at Mauthausen he supervised the camp's medical care and staff, initiated the killing of sick and disabled prisoners by lethal injection and was responsible for building a gas chamber in the camp hospital. He was convicted of war crimes at the Mauthausen trial and executed by hanging on 28 May 1947. He is recorded here as a documented case of medicine placed in the service of murder.
