Ernest Henry Starling (1866 to 1927) was a British physiologist. With William Bayliss, he discovered the hormone secretin and coined the term hormone, work that helped found the field of endocrinology. He formulated the principle of capillary fluid exchange now known as Starling forces and, with the cardiologist his name is jointly attached to, the Frank-Starling law of the heart. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1899.
