Ernst-Günther Schenck (1904 to 1998) was a German medical doctor and a member of the SS in Nazi Germany. A chance encounter with Adolf Hitler during the closing days of the Second World War gave his later memoirs unusual historical value, and his accounts of that period are prominent in the writing of Joachim Fest and James P. O'Donnell on the end of Hitler's life and were drawn on in the film Downfall (2004). He is a figure of medicine under the Nazi regime rather than of therapeutic achievement: after the war he was not allowed to continue his medical career in Germany. The atlas records him so that the record of what German physicians did and were held to account for under National Socialism is complete and sourced. He died in 1998.
