Johann Georg Macasius

Traditional and Historical Medicine Practitioners

Johann Georg Macasius (1617 to 1653) was a physician from the Holy Roman Empire, born in Eger in Bohemia, a town now in the Czech Republic. He studied at the University of Jena, where he received a first doctorate in medicine in 1638 under Johannes Musaeus with a thesis titled De natura et causis externis, and a second doctorate in medicine in 1640 under Balthasar Widmarcter with a thesis titled Disputatio de inflammatione. Together with Johann Mathias Nester he is named as author of the Promptuarium materiae medicae, sive Apparatus ad praxim medicam libris duobus adornatus, published in 1654, a two-book work on materia medica and medical practice. The source available says little else about his career, so this entry records his training and his one listed book.
