Johann Schroth (11 February 1798 to 26 March 1856) was an Austrian naturopath, born in Böhmischdorf in Silesia, today Česká Ves in the Czech Republic, and died in Lipová-lázně. A haulage contractor by trade, he developed a method of wearing cold compresses after a knee injury, then used wraps, steam baths and an austere diet of dry and drinkable days, and became an early advocate of fasting and moist heat therapy. Some people considered him a miracle worker and others, including several influential physicians, a charlatan. Around 1830 he founded a health spa, later run by his son Emmanuel, and the Schroth cure is still practiced. This is a historical record, not advice.
