Leslie Brent

Leslie Baruch Brent (1925-2019) was a British immunologist and zoologist known for his contributions to transplant science. He is best known as co-discoverer, with Peter Medawar and Rupert Billingham, of acquired immunological tolerance, demonstrated by injecting cells from donor mice into fetal and later neonatal mice, which as adults would accept donor skin grafts without rejection. A Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany, Brent arrived in Britain on the first Kindertransport in 1938; his parents and sister died in the Holocaust. He later became a prominent advocate for Holocaust education and was posthumously appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2020 for that work.
