Ludwig Heinrich Bojanus (1776 to 1827) was a Franco-German physician, comparative anatomist and naturalist, born at Bouxwiller in Alsace, who taught veterinary medicine at Vilnius University in the Russian Empire. He studied medicine at the University of Jena and took his doctorate in 1797. He was appointed professor of veterinary medicine at Vilnius in 1804, though he could take up the post only in 1806, began teaching comparative anatomy in 1814 and became rector of the university in 1822. His greatest work was a two-volume illustrated study of the anatomy of the European pond turtle, published in 1819 and 1821. A glandular organ of bivalve molluscs, the organ of Bojanus, is named after him, and he returned to Darmstadt shortly before his death.
