Robert Walter (physician)

Traditional and Historical Medicine Practitioners

Robert Walter (1841 to 1921) was a Canadian American physician and natural hygiene proponent. Born in Acton, Canada West, he studied medicine in Danville, New York, graduated from the Hygeio-Therapeutic College of New York in 1873 and from the Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia in 1888, and worked as a homeopath and hydrotherapist for twenty-five years. In 1876 he established the Walter Sanitarium in Pennsylvania. His book The Exact Science of Health (1903) espoused fasting, homeopathy and vitalism and made him an early advocate of colon cleansing; medical journals reviewed it negatively. He died in Reading, Pennsylvania. This entry records what he held and is not medical advice.
