Karl Bonhoeffer was a German neurologist, psychiatrist and physician, born on 31 March 1868 and died on 4 December 1948. He was born in Neresheim in the Kingdom of Württemberg and studied medicine at Tübingen, Berlin and Munich from 1887 to 1892. He worked as a professor at the University of Breslau from 1904 to 1912 and at the Charité in Berlin from 1912 to 1938. His children included Klaus and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, both executed by the Nazis. After the Aktion T4 campaign began in 1939 he took part in the resistance, forging documentation of disabled patients to save them. He also opposed the sexual reform movement of the Weimar Republic alongside Emil Kraepelin, an episode on which the article records a critical judgment.
