Holger Werfel Scheuermann (1877 to 1960) was a Danish orthopaedic surgeon and radiologist whose name is attached to Scheuermann disease, a disorder of the spine. He was born in Hørsholm into a family of doctors, began medical studies at the University of Copenhagen in 1895 and finished them in 1902. After his hospital training in Copenhagen he qualified as a specialist in orthopaedic surgery and radiology in 1918. He made study trips to Sweden, Austria and Germany, chaired the Danish Roentgenologists Association from 1920 to 1922 and the Danish Radiological Society in 1933 and 1934, and became a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 1935. After retiring in 1947 he continued for several years as a private radiologist, and in 1959 he was made an honorary doctor of medicine.
