Thomas Richard Allinson (1858 to 1918) was an English physician, dietetic reformer, businessman, journalist and vegetarianism activist, born in the Hulme district of Manchester. At fifteen he began work as a chemist's assistant, then attended the extramural medical school in Edinburgh and qualified through the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1879. After assistantships in Hull and the East End of London he set up his own practice in Marylebone in 1885. He was a vegetarian and a proponent of wholemeal bread, and his name is still used today for Allinson bread, popular in Europe. This entry records what was held and done and is not medical advice.
