Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute

The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, known as Swiss TPH, was founded in 1943 on the initiative of the zoologist Rudolf Geigy and operates today as an institute associated with the University of Basel, though it is legally an independent public-law institution. It describes its aim as improving the health of people in Switzerland and worldwide through research, education and services, working across parasitology, infection biology, epidemiology, public health and health systems, and health economics. In 2009 it absorbed Basel's Institute for Social and Preventive Medicine, adopting its current name the following January. Funding comes from Switzerland's State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation, the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, and competitively won research grants, the last of which supplies most of its revenue. The institute relocated from Basel to Allschwil in April 2022.
