Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors intended to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting, fasting, or excessive exercise. Unlike anorexia nervosa, people with bulimia nervosa often maintain a body weight within or above the normal range. The disorder is associated with significant distress about body shape and weight.
