Matthew Derbyshire Mann (1845 to 1921) was an American gynecologist. He is remembered as one of the surgeons who operated on President William McKinley after McKinley was shot on the grounds of the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York, on September 6, 1901, by the anarchist Leon Czolgosz. The atlas records him because of that single, widely known episode in the history of surgery: a physician trained in gynecology who was among the operating team called to treat a president wounded by an assassin. Beyond his specialty as a gynecologist and the dates of his life, the source article used here says little about his wider career, so this entry stays short rather than guessing at details that the source does not support.
