All Local Anesthesia

Techniques that numb only the specific skin surface, tooth or small treated area to which an anesthetic agent is directly applied, injected shallowly or infiltrated, rather than blocking an entire nerve, plexus or region or inducing whole-body unconsciousness. This includes local anesthesia and topical anesthesia and their applied-product form, topical anesthetic, dental-specific local numbing (dental anesthesia, inferior alveolar nerve anaesthesia), infiltration-based techniques that numb tissue directly at the treatment or wound site (infiltration analgesia, continuous wound infiltration, tumescent anesthesia), and WALANT, wide-awake local anesthesia with no tourniquet, a technique built specifically around local infiltration without sedation or a regional block. A technique that blocks an entire nerve, plexus or spinal segment beyond the immediately treated surface is grouped instead under regional and nerve block anesthesia.
