Psychotherapies centered on personal growth, meaning, choice and the whole person rather than symptom reduction alone, in the tradition of humanistic and existential psychology. This includes person-centered and Gestalt approaches (person-centered therapy, gestalt therapy, gestalt theoretical psychotherapy, humanistic therapy broadly), existential and meaning-focused approaches (existential therapy, logotherapy, positive psychotherapy, morita therapy), choice-based and contemplative approaches (reality therapy, contemplative psychotherapy, satitherapy), and transpersonal or spiritually oriented growth-focused approaches (psychosynthesis, spiritual self-schema therapy). A growth-oriented label attached to a therapy whose actual working mechanism is cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic or family-systemic is grouped under that mechanism instead.
