Symptomatic treatment, also called supportive care, supportive therapy, or palliative treatment, is medical therapy for a disease that affects only its symptoms rather than the underlying cause. It is usually aimed at reducing signs and symptoms for the comfort and well being of the patient, though it can also reduce the disease's organic consequences and sequelae. In many diseases, even those whose causes are known, symptomatic treatment remains the only treatment available.
