Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), also called bioidentical hormone therapy or natural hormone therapy, is the use of hormones that are molecularly identical to a person own endogenous hormones as a form of hormone replacement therapy. It may be combined with blood or saliva testing of hormone levels and pharmacy compounding to try to reach a targeted hormone level, using hormones such as estrone, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA and estriol. A number of claims made by some proponents of the therapy have not been confirmed through scientific testing.
