Gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), also known as transgender hormone therapy, is a form of hormone therapy in which sex hormones and other hormonal medications are administered to transgender or gender-nonconforming people to more closely align their secondary sexual characteristics with their gender identity. It is given as one of two types depending on the goal of treatment: masculinizing hormone therapy, using androgens and sometimes antiestrogens, or feminizing hormone therapy, using estrogens with or without antiandrogens.
