Reproductive and Genetic Screening

Tests, sampling procedures and counseling used before conception, during pregnancy or in the newborn period to assess genetic risk, fetal health or a newborn's own condition. This includes prenatal and genetic sampling and diagnosis (amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, percutaneous umbilical cord blood sampling, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, prenatal testing), counseling given before or during pregnancy (genetic counseling, preconception counseling), and newborn-specific screening (newborn screening broadly, universal neonatal hearing screening, and the Ortolani test, a newborn hip examination for congenital dislocation). A screening test aimed at the general adult population rather than pregnancy, a fetus or a newborn is grouped instead under screening and diagnostic tests.
