Hyperimmune Globulin

Hyperimmune globulin is a class of antibody preparations made from the plasma of donors with high antibody levels against a specific pathogen or toxin, gained either through recovery from disease or repeated immunization. Given to provide a recipient immediate but temporary passive immunity, it has historically targeted agents such as hepatitis B, rabies, tetanus toxin, and varicella-zoster virus; horse-derived preparations, once standard, have largely been replaced by human-derived versions except for uses such as snakebite antivenom, where the faster-acting equine product remains valuable.
